Manitowoc, Wis.(WFRV)--A bubbly piece of downtown Manitowoc isn't going anywhere.
Last week, the city started the process of removing the giant beer bottle banners from Riverland Ag Corp, after the silos were purchased from Anheuser Busch.
But that work has been halted. The beer banners have been removed, and the mural underneath was supposed to have been scrubbed off Monday morning.
But thanks to some community support, the artwork has been saved.
The giant bottles were painted more than 40 years ago and they're known by many as sort of the Hollywood sign of Manitowoc.
So, when llocal artists Kim Geiser and Jason Prigge found out they were being removed, they sprung into action - organizing an online petition to the mayor, asking the city to reconsider.
It worked. Mayor Justin Nickels tells Local Five he met with officials at Riverland Ag Corp and they agreed to let the murals stay.
As a condition of keeping the mural, the city may need ongoing community support to help fund its upkeep.
Local Five's Heather Sawaski has the story.
