Gudex v. King Canvass Continues in Fond du Lac County

FOND DU LAC, Wis (WFRV) Numbers indicate Republican Rick Gudex won his 18th Senate District race with Democrat Jessica King by over 500 votes on election night, but King is waiting for the final numbers before conceding.

The Fond du Lac County Clerk spent about an hour canvassing votes in the 18th District Monday afternoon. Gudex ended up gaining six votes, all of those coming from mail in ballets post marked on Election Day.

A total of 30 additional votes were counted Monday, eighteen to Gudex and twelve to King.

Workers in the Clerk's office say the new numbers mirror the percentage of votes tallied on election night.

Last week, King gained six votes in Winnebago County.

The county clerk says canvassing is done every year, and although there may be a spotlight on the state senate race this year, it is business as usual.

"We are looking for any kind of discrepancies, we are looking at write-in votes, making sure that doesn't throw us off, or that somebody might have put down Jessica King or might have put down Rick Gudex, that those totals get added there instead of in the scattering line," says Fond du Lac County Clerk Lisa Freidberg.

The final canvass is set to take place in Dodge County on Wednesday.
