DE PERE, Wis. (WFRV)-- St. Norbert College has been chosen out of a large pool of possible locations to host the Medical College of Wisconsin facility.

Bellin College will also be a partner for a clinical simulation center.

The decision on where it would be hosted took about six months, several institutions and community leaders wrote proposals to host the college, including the city of Green Bay.

MCW said they chose St. Norbert because of plans to build a new science building and for the college environment.

"We do feel like we were offering a lot of what they were looking for," said SNC President Tom Kunkel, "I think the potential upside for us as a college are almost unlimited, and the upside for the community I think you know just boggle the mind."

Kunkel said the ultimate goal in training the doctors there is that they will stay and practice here.

"When they graduate they will go onto residencies with the local hospitals, the whole point of the program is to get home grown talent, train them here, so when they graduate they are much more inclined to stay here and practice," said Kunkel.

"It's a great benefit for the community and the region it's going to provide us with a greater pool of physicians," said Connie Boerst, the President and CEO of Bellin College.

The first class is expected to launch in the summer of 2015 with 15 students. They plan to increase enrollment with each class. The total cost to launch the Green Bay area program is expected to be between $11 and $12 million.

MCW will also start programs in Marshfield, Stevens Point and Wausau.
