Malls Boost Security for Holidays

Holiday shopping is in full swing. The malls are packed, and people are buying as much as they can carry. Bay Park Square Mall says they are prepared.

"We do have extra security with the increase of crowds during the holidays, and we do maintain a really good working relationship with Ashwaubenon Public Safety," says Marketing Director Stephanie Blavat.

Green Bay Police Department reports they won't be increasing patrols, but officers know it's shopping season, and they are ready to deal with thieves and shoplifters.

"They are aware of that and they keep an extra eye out in those areas as part of their daily patrols," says Lt. Jeff Engelbrecht.

Police say they only dealt with a couple of isolated incidents over Black Friday.

Almost 100,000 people showed up at Fox River Mall throughout the day Friday, causing a scene at the Pink store early in the morning.

"It was an overwhelming crowd to get into the Pink store, so the Pink staff management had security officers there to stanchion off, and they limited the number of people that could get into and out of the store at a time," says Fox River Mall Marketing Manager Jim Zielinski.

No one was hurt in that incident.

As the holiday shopping season continues, law enforcement warns to be smart with your purchases. Lock your doors if you plan to leave your car unattended with gifts inside, and be sure not to leave anything of value.
