Packers Still Shaking Heads Over Loss to Giants

By: Leslie Spoon
Updated: November 27, 2012

The Packers are still trying to make sense of their 28-point loss to the Giants on Sunday. Green Bay's defense has saved the day a number of times this season, but they just didn't have any answers in the Meadowlands. Defensive Coordinator Dom Capers weighs in:

"The fact that we weren't able to get off the field on third down like we had here in the past.  Over the last few weeks we've been playing the run awful well we didn't play the run as well, it was a number of things, some gap control, have to be sharper in our tackling, again I think the biggest thing is they got the momentum early in the game and we had some opportunities to make some plays but we didn't make those plays to change the momentum of the game and that's what you have to do in this business."

Offensively Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was sacked five times. According to Offensive Coordinator Tom Clements the answer isn't necessarily extra blockers, its better execution:

"Each plan that we have, we have a seven man protection, six man protection, five man protection and we utilize all of those at times so and we also utilized an eight man protection at one point so we just have to try to mix it up and see what we can do to shore it up a little bit."

And just because the Packers lost one game doesn't mean the green and gold will re-invent the wheel. Here's what Mike McCarthy had to say after a couple days to take in the loss:

"We're not going to change the way we go about our business. Urgency, awareness is obviously heightened once you get into December that's a natural path through any NFL season. The New York Giants clearly outplayed us. I realize that they out performed us whether its coaching, all the way through so it was not our best night, they got after us and more importantly what we do with this experience is most important to me."

Green Bay Defensive Tackle, B.J. Raji had similar thoughts:

"Now we'll see what we have coming back to work cause it's easy to come back to work when you're winning, it will be interesting to see how we come back."
