Influenza Cases on the Rise

GREEN BAY, Wisc. (WFRV) An early jump in flu cases has health officials urging people to get vaccinated.

So far there have been 113 laboratory-confirmed influenza cases this season, compared to 7 cases at the same time last year. Twelve people have already been hospitalized for influenza this year. No one was hospitalized for the illness at this time last year.

"Wisconsin's influenza season started early this year and we're asking everyone to take the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention flu vaccination pledge by getting their flu shot and encouraging others to do the same," said Dr. Henry Anderson, State Health Officer.

Anderson noted that it is critical for older people and children to be protected.

As long as flu viruses are spreading and causing illness, vaccination can provide protection against the flu. According to the CDC, everyone aged six months and older should be vaccinated.
