McCarthy "very confident" Dom Capers will be back as defensive coordinator

By: Nick Goddard
Updated: January 15, 2013

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy's season-ending press conference late Tuesday afternoon turned into the Dom Capers hour.

McCarthy fielded several questions asking about Green Bay's defensive coordinator and his future in Titletown.

After the 49ers routed the Packers last Saturday night, putting up 45 points and 579 yards of total offense, Capers has been under the microscope.  San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick passed for 263 yards and rushed for 183 more, as the Packers had no answers for San Francisco's read option offense.

Tuesday, McCarthy says he anticipates Capers returning, but no final decisions have been made.

"Our process has already started and there's no decisions on anybody."  McCarthy said.  "I have great, great faith and respect for Dom Capers and all of our coaches but everything, top to bottom will be evaluated.

Those are Mike's decisions, my plans are to be here. Again I think we've got a young defense that's ascending, I think all the statistics point to that. I feel awful about the way we played because you want to play your best in that game and we didn't and I accept responsibility for that, that's my job to make sure that we play better.
