Mens Baskeball: St. Norbert defeats Cornell for 9th straight victory

DE PERE (St. Norbert Athletics) - St. Norbert College won for the ninth consecutive time as the Green Knights topped Cornell College 80-63 in a Midwest Conference game on Connie Tilley Court at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights (12-3, 9-2 MWC) moved into sole possession of first place in the MWC with the win following Grinnell's 103-93 loss at Ripon. St. Norbert holds a one-game lead on Grinnell and Carroll with seven games remaining.

St. Norbert held a 20-19 lead with 8:57 left in the first half before going on a 12-3 run to take a 32-22 lead with 4:18 left before halftime on a Jeremy Paprocki 3-pointer. The Green Knights led 35-29 at halftime.

The Green Knights led 37-33 early in the second half before an 11-2 run, with Brandon Gries scoring seven of the run's points, put them ahead 48-35 with 15:09 to go. St. Norbert kept its double-digit lead the rest of the way, never trailing by less than 11 points the remainder of the game.

St. Norbert shot 52.5 percent (31-for-59) from the floor and held a commanding 42-27 rebounding advantage. Gries finished with 22 points, while Paul Appleton added 14 points and Austin Elliott postetd 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Garrett Thorn chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds, with six coming on the offensive end.

Cornell shot 41.1 percent (23-for-56) from the floor, with Reggie Greenwood pacing the Rams with 19 points. Tabari Carter added 16 points and Joey Guth 13.
