College Basketball: Green Bay's Turner to miss remainder of season with torn ACL

By: Nick Goddard
Updated: February 5, 2013

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - For the second-straight season, Green Bay's Daniel Turner (McCordsville, Ind.) will miss the end of the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Turner, a junior and team captain, sustained the injury in his left knee in Saturday's win at Loyola. Turner missed the final 16 games of the 2011-12 season due to a torn ACL injury in his right knee.

"All of us associated in the program are saddened and disappointed for Daniel," said head coach Brian Wardle. "He is as hard a worker as anyone I have coached, and he put a lot of time and effort into getting back onto the court to help us win. Daniel being back on the court has brought us great toughness and leadership in the past few weeks, and others will need to take the opportunity to step up in those roles."

Turner, who also missed seven games earlier in the season due to injury, has started the past six games for the Phoenix at small forward. Green Bay has a 4-2 record in those six games, and he is averaging 1.7 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.

In his Phoenix career, Turner has played in 59 games, starting 41 times. As a freshman, Turner averaged 6.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, breaking the program's Division I freshman record for rebounds in a season.

Turner is the second Green Bay player to be out for the season due to a knee injury. Sophomore Josh Humphrey (Chicago, Ill.), who started the last 10 games of the 2011-12 season in Turner's place, suffered a season-ending injury during preseason practice.

Green Bay returns home this week to host Wright State (Thursday, 7 p.m.) and Detroit (Saturday, 1 p.m.).
