GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Following two wins last week to push its winning streak to 16 straight games, the Green Bay women's basketball team (21-2, 11-0 HL) received a No. 25 ranking in the Week 16 Associated Press Top 25 poll released this morning.
Green Bay spent the previous two weeks as the top vote-receiving team in both the AP and USA Today Coaches poll, falling just one point shy of the No. 25 ranking in the AP poll last week. The Phoenix led Nebraska in votes in the same AP poll, but the Cornhuskers jumped to the No. 24 position in this week's edition.
The ranking marks the first time Green Bay has appeared in the AP poll during the 2012-13 campaign after starting the season receiving votes in the AP poll and ranked No. 25 in the coaches poll.
The first-place Phoenix defeated the Horizon League's second-place team in Youngstown State on Saturday, giving the team a three-game lead in the conference standings. With two more wins, Green Bay guarantees itself at least a share of a 15th-straight regular season Horizon League Championship.
Green Bay will close out a four-game homestand on Saturday against Valparaiso at 2 p.m.
