Marquette Edges Out Syracuse

By: Leslie Spoon
Updated: February 26, 2013
Lead by Davante Gardner's career-high 26 points, No. 22 Marquette beat No. 12 Syracuse Monday night moving the Golden Eagles into second play in the Big East, one-half game behind No. 7 Georgetown. Gardner was 100%,  7-for-7 from the field and was 12-of-13 from the charity stripe.

The Orange went on a 13-0 run midway through the first half to take the 25-14 lead with just over four minutes to play, but Marquette responded by scoring eight points in 41 seconds to pull within three points heading into halftime.

The Golden Eagles made 24-of-28 free throws in the second half, while Syracuse shot just two foul shots. With the three-point win, Marquette extends its home winning streak to 24 games, the second longest in the nation.
