APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) Appleton Mayor Tim Hanna is defending the city's decision to give $25,000 in relocation benefits to its new IT Director. Dean Fox is expected to be voted into the position Wednesday night. He's been the interim for more than a year. Fox will be paid $95,000 a year.
Fox will need to move about 10 miles to comply with the city's residency rule. Hanna says the compensation is necessary to cover a potential loss Fox may experience when selling his home and he says it's also important to attract the best employees for the job.
In his budget address, Governor Walker expressed a desire to end residency requirements throughout the state.
Fox will have two years to move to Appleton. If the state changes its policy in that time, Fox will not get the additional compensation.
