BUSTED: Internet Crimes Against Children

By: Wendy Fleury
Updated: March 18, 2013

BROWN COUNTY, Wisc. (WFRV) A widespread crackdown on internet crimes against children puts over 15 people behind bars.

Officials at the Brown County Sheriff's Department say the large scale operation, "Operation Black Veil", was a three day long sting that ran last week Tuesday through Thursday. It involved numerous agencies, including the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. A total of eight counties throughout Wisconsin were involved, as well as six other police jurisdictions.

More than 15 suspects were arrested as part of Operation Black Veil. They are facing various charges including: use of a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, child enticement, and trafficking of a child.

According to Sheriff's officials, the operation was "a proactive, online investigation relating to the exploitation of children through the use of online personal advertisements, specifically targeting online predators who solicit children for the purpose of engaging in sexually explicit conduct."

The Sheriff's Department will hold a press conference about the sting later this morning. Stick with Local 5 for more information beginning with Local 5 at noon.
