Remember the weather we had in March of 2012? It's the opposite of March 2013

APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) The latest round of snow is forcing some business owners to alter their plans. Many who rely on warmer temperatures are pushing back the start of their season. Consider this - last year at this time, many area golf courses were already open for business. Some days we hit 70 degrees of more. This year, it could be another 3 to 4 weeks before anyone is out on the links.
Workers at Lowney's Landscaping Center in Appleton keep wishing for the weather we had last year. That's making some landscapers worried. Owner Joe Lowney switches gears during the off season, offering a plow service to customers. There's been plenty of snow this season, which is helping business. But at local golf courses the green is covered in white. Little can be done until it thaws.
At Eagle Creek, head golf professional Brian Hansen says he'll need at least 10 days of dry weather once we finally head into spring. 30,000 rounds were played at Reid Golf Course in Appleton last season. In 2012, they welcomed golfers on March 16th - a record for their earliest opening. With a fresh round of snow, managers here are pushing the start of this season to April 12th - a big contrast compared to last season.
Even if the golfing season starts a little later than normal, most courses make up the business during the summer. The latest Reid Golf Course ever opened was April 24th - that was back in the 80s.
