breaking news
A small plane has crashed in a remote part of the Rocky Mountain National Park, injuring two people from Wisconsin.
Officials say a 54-year old Jim Michaels and his 18-year old daughter Tonie suffered minor injuries when their plane crashed just before 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.
They used trees and debris from the plane to build a shelter while waiting to be rescued. Park rangers reached them Friday morning. They were brought down from the wreckage in a helicopter. Both were conscious and moving when rangers arrived at the wreckage.
The two took off from Oconomowoc on Wednesday and were planning to fly to Aspen and Telluride before returning home.
Michaels owned the 2009 American Champion plane.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
