Online with Erin: Useful links for Wisconsin voters

By:
Updated: November 29, -0001
Primaries are over, and the general election will be here before you know it. While only 19 percent of Wisconsin's 4-million plus registered voters took part in the primary- far more are expected to vote in the general election November 2nd. While there is a wealth of political information online, it can be difficult to know which facts are from reliable sources. To get you ready for the vote, we've gathered a few websites that are directed specifically at Wisconsin Voters. First up- two political websites that are non-partisan and privately supported. http://www.wiseye.org/ Wisconsin Eye is statewide public affairs network. It's video cameras give you an inside look at state government. For campaign 2010- the site runs down the races- and offers links to voter resources. http://www.wispolitics.com/ WisPolitics calls itself Wisconsin's Premier Political News Service. Among the features helpful at election time- ad watch- a rundown of the candidates television ads, voter information- where you can look up polling place and voter registration and Wisconsin Opinion Links- a collection of political blogger links- and a live feed of Wisconsin politicians and candidates on Twitter. http://www.legis.state.wi.us/ And finally- a taxpayer supported website that's part of the Wisconsin State Government site. This is a place to do some real research- where you can track legislation - and legislators - history and statistics- the fundamentals and the most obscure facts. Probably most helpful around election time is a section called "Who Represents Me?" By putting in your address- you can locate your elected representatives and e-mail them directly from the site. Most of the candidates also have a presence online, not only with websites, but also with Facebook and Twitter. Here's a rundown of a few of the candidates websites, in alphabetical order. US Senate Race Russ Feingold (D) http://www.russfeingold.org/home.html Ron Johnson (R) http://ronjohnsonforsenate.com/home/ Wisconsin Governor Race Tom Barrett (D) http://www.barrettforwisconsin.com/ Scott Walker http://www.scottwalker.org/ 8th District Congressional Race Steve Kagen (D) http://www.kagen4congress.com/ Reid Ribble (R) www.ribbleforcongress.com These websites not only can give you a better idea about a candidates position on the issues, but you will also find links that will let you take part in the campaign by interacting with the candidate and his supporters on Facebook and Twitter. The countdown is on to the general election. Do you know who you are voting for, and why?
