Laurie Harms, a 31-year-old new mother and wife should have every reason to celebrate life; a new baby, a loving husband. Yet Laurie is living with an incurable rare disease that makes it almost impossible to function on a daily basis. Laurie suffers from Gorham Stouts Syndrome, more commonly known as "vanishing bone disease." Painfully thin and stiff as a board, Laurie looks like her neck is fused to her spine when she is mobile. Luckily, Laurie found hope and a voice through Dr. Frank Acosta at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. According to Dr. Acosta most people with Gorham Stouts Syndrome only survive into their twenties. It looks like Laurie Harms is defying the odds.
